Advice
How can I help?
With over 30 years of experience in several fields of Outdoor Education to draw on, I can work with your school, setting or organisation to help make the most of your outdoor provision. I enjoy responding to new places and exploring their potential with staff who know them well. Every session is bespoke and I aim to work closely with you to create a clear plan and maximise the benefit of our time together. Saying that, I always travel with enough equipment and resources to allow for spontaeity and exploration of ideas that arise on the day. Some examples of my recent advisory and community work include:
- Working with a residential special school to embed Forest Education experiences in their curriculum. This involved site use and management planning as well as staff training in Forest Skills to meet local authority risk assessment requirements.
- Helping a chain of nurseries in Somerset who wanted to make more of their outdoor spaces and improve what they offered their children and families. This started with a training needs assessment and was followed with 2 whole day practical workshops with staff from a number of settings.
- Supporting a childrens hospice charity who wanted to develop staff confidence in use of their outdoor space for 1:1 sessions with their young people. This was a half day training session with a large group staff.
- Leading varied Primary school INSET days developing outdoor learning opportunities linked to curriculum planning for the year ahead. Responding to particular interests and needs on each day with specific skills training.
- Organising a community autumn foraging day on a suburban community woodland.
- Leading 2 month long schools and community volunteer tree planting programmes on a district council led woodland creation scheme.
Costs
Every situation is unique so it is best to get in touch to discuss how we might work together and I can give you a customised quote. As a rough idea, a single day of bespoke training for up to 10 staff, including planning, preparation, all equipment and resources is likely to be around £450 plus travel charged at cost. Certificates of attendance can be provided for professional development logs if required.
