Whittling
I offer half and full day workshops for adults on whittling for beginners and improvers. These are popular as professional development for forest educators as well as for recreational whittlers and those getting started on a new hobby. A half day covers basic technique, choice of wood and tools, practice, coaching and completion of a small project. Full day workshops allow us to explore techniques in more detail, include an introduction to tool sharpening as well as a chance to try out the wooden flower pony and work on your own projects with individual support. A tree walk is sometimes included as an active rest for aching carving muscles.

Professional Development
For those who would like to develop their practice and go deeper than is possible in a Forest School training course. I offer half and whole day outdoor workshops on the following topics.
- Experiential learning and the processes of active reviewing
- Ropes, knots and woodland play structures. Building on the FSA guidance on low ropes at Forest school
- The role of craft in outdoor education. Making ‘the stuff of life’ as a way to understand sustainability.
Cost
I no longer organise open workshops for individual bookings but if you can get a group of up to 10 people together, I am happy to host a day in North Devon or to travel to your venue in the UK or farther afield. I charge £450 for a full day / £300 for a half day plus travel (and accommodation if needed) at cost. All tools and materials are provided. [If your venue has biosecurity measures in place that prevent freshly cut wood coming in, we would need to look at what could be sourced and cut on site.]
